Antirrhinum
Log 1
Dr. Violet North
Honestly I dont know how the only two female-aggressive nyctas on the whole island found eachother, let alone the fact that they even became pair-bonded.
We were in the middle of assessing Antirrhinum for genetic abnormalities since he has shown that he will not only let unrelated specters live, but even raise them as his own. We thought since he wasn't as aggressive as other nyctas that he might have developed a mutation where the angler fish DNA didn't affect his aggression level, but it turns out we will need more time to study that.
It was unexpected when he took in Hebroic instead of killing him, and since he seemed to be quite avoidant of the other creatures on the island we thought that he was just naturally less aggressive, we were so very wrong.
We found out when he took in the young nycta that something in his mind clicked, and he suddenly became a screaming, snapping mess whenever something came near it. We are unsure what causes this dramatic change in his behavior whenever there are specters around, but it's almost as if he takes on a banshee's role.
The only exception to this that we've found is his mate Maelstrom, unlike a banshee, Antirrhinum will not chase away his mate when the specters are young. Instead the two will work together to chase away any threats, with Maelstrom chasing the threat away while Antirrhinum keeps the specters safe.
Due to this behavior towards adopted specters, we decided to mix their DNA into a few viable eggs, and it turned out better than we thought it would. Unfortunately we weren't able to get any pictures of the first experiment Venus as a hatchling since they hid her away in a cave, and after Antirrhinum tore apart two drones we decided to cut our losses and leave them be. We did get a few pictures of Vhadiira and Altaire however, and I've attached those to this note as proof if anyone doubts the fact that the two males clearly display abnormal behavior.
