Antirrhinum
Log 3
Dr. Violet North
We were surprised to see that Antirrhinum and Maelstrom were both missing during the herbivore migration. It makes more sense for Antirrhinum to avoid the migration due to his easygoing nature, but Maelstrom would have taken the chance to hunt with the other carnivores following the herd. We were worried something might have happened to the pair so we sent a drone to Antirrhinum's location.
Thankfully the two were unharmed and were staying by one of the lakes on the south side of the island, which explains their absence during the migration. The males did not leave the area for the few hours we were observing them and we already had another clutch of eggs on standby for their next clutch so although it was a little earlier than we originally planned it was decided that we would give them to the pair.
In hindsight, we should have waited until the scheduled date, since the herds had moved on food was scarce while they raised the specters. Because of this and Antirrhinum's increased aggression we almost lost a couple of drones while trying to get a closer look at the hatchlings. Despite the lack of resources the young nyctas were able to reach adulthood and were named Glaurung (STATUS: DECEASED) and Kazuto Kirigaya (STATUS: DECEASED).
From what we have recorded so far Glaurung (STATUS: DECEASED) has inherited Maelstrom's aggression, sharing only his red bioluminescence with Antirrhinum. More observation will need to be done to determine Kazuto Kirigaya's (STATUS: DECEASED) temperament so I'll have to assign one of the assistants to keep an eye on him.
